I voted for technique. You've got an impressive line-art especially pencil line-art. but the impression is kinda drop when you coloring, it's kinda looks flat. Try to make an overall simple shading of your work(color tone, direction of light and shadow etc.) before doing coloring. This will helps you determine the coloring process of your work from then on. And you can always adjust it before an actual coloring process.
And try to minimize using soft-edge brushes. They're useful for some situation but if you use that brush for majority of your work it'll make it feel too digitalize. Try using many variation of brushes, it'll make your artwork more vibrant and dynamic.

PS. And I'm actually giving constructive criticism!? Gasp!! The 2012 things might be true after all.

Thank you, and indeed sometimes I feel I'm too overtly dependent on soft brushes. As for the light and shading, I already work in the volumes and lightsource in grayscale and then overlay the colors on top. On my last piece I avoided the use of soft brushes altogether ( [link] ) and I've experimented with single layer painting as well ( [link] ) but I feel I need to further develop my style to improve as an overall artist. I will most certainly follow your advise.

Mind you I still love using soft brushes because there are artist that can do just beautiful pieces with them such as Omar Dogan( [link] )
